In the heart of Leith, among remnants of factories and mills, Day Sleeper can be found hewing pop gems from slabs of sonic abrasion.The Edinburgh band’s 2023 debut EP “Everything There Is” effortlessly walks a blurred line between the lush pathos of The Blue Nile or Future Islands, and the warped adventurism of Animal Collective or Yo La Tengo. Opening track and debut single “Low Joy” puts a story of death and grief against a backdrop of singed heartland rock, while the record’s closing track “Nailed to the Floor” finds romance and redemption in a dark ocean of shoegaze guitars and crushed spectres of 80s new wave.Day Sleeper is Leo Bargery, Ryan Firth, Carron Miller, James Callaghan, Liam Dempsey and Edwin McLachlan.
